The fact is that Columbia,SC does not seem to have the problems that the rest of country is suffering from. Here in Columbia we have more gradual appreciation rate than do some of the other areas you hear about.
 
This makes the Columbia, SC real estate market far less suseptable to over priced houses that first home buyers can no longer afford in areas like California, which seems to be the hardest hit be the current "slump".  Northeast Columbia, SC real estate has continued to progress and expand, with the addition of several new shopping centers, developments, and the inevitable new home communites that seem to follow that development where ever it goes. In short, the greater Columbia area is a fantastic place to call home. With reasonable prices, strong growth, excellent job oppertunities, tons of shopping and entertainment, and a steady real estate market, I see no reason that will change anytime soon.
